Teaching Identity

Interpretation:
Teachers bring themselves into the classroom- including their culture, background, beliefs, education, experience, and understanding of the world around them. For me as an educator I bring in compassion, content knowledge, and an open mind. Through my education experience in four different cities throughout Illinois my work in the Chicago Public School systems has helped to mold who I am as a teacher by helping me to realize how to think about the way a student of a different background thinks. Though I grew up in a Western Suburb of Chicago I have the ability to relate to my students by expressing my own culture and opening up my students to sharing theirs with the whole class which is evident in the artifacts section of this page.
