Community

Interpretation:
Building a rapport between teacher to student, teacher to community to student, and teacher to parent are all a necessity to have success in the classroom. Prior to the school year starting I had the opportunity to visit the neighborhood my school is located in and visit with some of the local business owners. Grasping an initial understanding of where and how my students lived helped me frame my classroom profile before I even met my students. Being aware of the social services available to students helps me to provide assistance to those struggling both in and outside of school. Through completing a fieldwork project on the Social Service availability to the members of my community several of my students parents have been able to take English lessons so they can communicate with others. Additionally keeping an open line of communication via teacher website, email, phone, and before and after school availability has given me the opportunity to build and nurture relationships with parents and in turn the community.
